Dear Brion,

May the blessings of Pelor be ever upon you. I hope all is well with you and the rat-kin.

It has only been a few days since I wrote you from Duvik's Pass, but much has happened in those few days. We are currently in Edwest Burrows and expect to be here until about the 16th, so I thought I would write you again.

When we arrived here last night, we were surprised to learn that the folks living here had heard of our adventures with the rat-kin. I imagine that news of more recent events will soon reach Shepford through the usual channels, whatever they are.

Last night as we were sitting in the tavern here, the floor fell in. I'm beginning to think that taverns are bad luck. The cave-in was caused this time not by rat-kin but by huge roaches -- by huge I mean the size of medium-sized dogs. I'm not talking about the kind that show up in store-rooms sometimes if you're not careful. These dog-sized roaches came up through the sewers into the Crock Pot's kitchen and dragged off a halfling child. We went in after her and eventually prevailed, but it was a long, ugly fight. We're injured and tired, and that's why we're resting here a while. (Don't worry; it is nothing that won't heal with a bit of rest and some time in the sun.)

Edwest Burrows is pretty much due north of Shepford, and the rat-kin were being driven from the north by something nasty. Has Tobin told you anything more about what that might have been? Could their plight be related to what we found here? If so, is there anything else they can tell us about what was chasing them?

In happier news, in the few weeks since we left Shepford my magical skills have improved quite a bit. I have also acquired a friend, an owl named Hrolf; if at some point he should deliver a message to you on my behalf, do not be surprised. He will not hurt you. Pelor has clearly blessed me in sending good fortune my way in such abundance.

I hope to return to Shepford for a visit soon, though I do not know when. Colm would like to continue on the path I previously mentioned, and I don't know when I will be able to persuade him to return. I look forward to seeing you again; there are things I would like to share with you in person rather than via letters.

May the warmth of Pelor be upon you. I look forward to your next letter.
