Paladins become immune to all diseases at 3rd level and can start to use the Remove Disease spell as a spell-like ability at 6th so regular diseases shouldn't be hurting him and he might even be able to fight off the one that is affecting the land eventually (although, that certainly depends on a lot of things because that is clearly no normal disease).
