(I've been lax about these. Sorry.)

Tuesday, August 24, continued
Having defeated the sick kobolds in the mess room and store room, the party explored to the west, toward the mine proper.

After about 40 feet, the mine sloped down sharply. Shortly after that, a Kyle's weight triggered a pressure plate that opened at 20' pit behind him, into which Turok fell.
It took the party quite a while to pull Turok out and then cross the pit using ropes.

They then entered a huge cavern lit by phosphorescent fungus, with gleams of silver ore in the rock and huge stalactites on the cavern floor. Cables led up to a hollow 20 feet up in the west wall, where the miners had been working the main vein.

As the heroes entered the cavern, they were caught by crossbow fire from kobolds in the hollow. Kyle was badly hit in the first voley, and fell unconscious. Turok grabbed Kyle's body, and the heroes ran back to shelter. Fortunately, no kobolds pursued them as they made their way across the pit again. They returned to their camp to heal.

Wednesday, August 25

Everyone spent the day resting but Liandra, the party's healer.
Turok felt a bit of a chill of fever, but Liandra's goldenseal tea kept him from feeling any ill effects.
Slade was a bit whiny and feverish as well.
With Liandra's healing spells, the heroes returned to nearly full health.

Thursday, August 26
Turok threw off the fever, and Slade seemed to be doing better. The heroes returned to rout the kobolds.

There was one kobold sentry guarding the way, but he was too involved with chewing on a piece of old meat to notice the party's arrival. Kyle snuck up to try to kill it quietly, but although he did great at sneaking, he didn't manage to aim true with his sneak attack. However, the party was able to quickly put down the kobold before he could get far.

This time, the party was prepared for the pit, with a few long boards to span it, and prepared for the kobolds. Larissa blasted the kobolds with magic missiles. Turok's crossbowmanship took out some more. Prolix's use of the True Strike spell allowed him to kill the retreating kobold leader who had moved out of line-of-sight. Not everything worked quite as planned, though: Turok and Kyle tried a stunt of Turok throwing Kyle to the top of the ledge. Kyle didn't have his skill quite together for that, and hit the wall instead. He managed to grab one of the cables, but the kobolds rained crossbow fire down on him, and he fell unconscious again.

At last the kobolds surrendered. The five surviving kobolds and their two noncombatant children were banished from the mine.

The body of the leader held 24 gp, a potion in an earthenware flask, and a large purple garnet. The two kobold children were huddled under a cloak that radiated magic as well.

The kobolds said that they got sick after they arrived, and blamed a "demon" in the further recesses of the mine. The demon was apparently large and white, and stole the bodies of their dead invisibly.

The heroes made their way back to camp again to recover before pressing on to meet the demon below.

Experience points:
Pit: 300
8 kobolds: 400
Kobold leader: 600
Total: 1300
