January 28 (Saturday), evening

We're just sitting here this evening while people rest, so maybe this is a good time to try to work out some thoughts about the world.

1. We know that Agondre, the Dragon Empire, was founded by Agon. We know that Agon had a jewel called the Dragon's Heart, with which he worked empire-related magic.

2. Legend says the jewel was made from an actual dragon.

3. We have no legends of Agon actually killing a dragon.

4. Bards never let go of a good story.

5. 3 + 4 implies that Agon probably did not kill the dragon that provided the magical jewel.

6. There is obviously a strong connection between dragons -- or a dragon -- and the land.

7. Three possibilities:

  • a. The land is linked in some way to a dead dragon, source unknown.
  • b. The land is linked to a live dragon, whereabouts unknown.
  • c. The land is a live dragon, metaphysical implications unknown.
8. The land is changing state. The state change is not unidirectional taken over centuries, so if a., the dragon in question is irrelevant to current affairs. I will focus on b. and c.

Unknown: If b. or c., is the dragon a willing participant?

Unknown: If b. or c., how do the dragon's goals compare to those of Agon and those who followed? Four possible states: enslaved dragon with Agon's goals; enslaved dragon opposed to Agon; willing partner with Agon's goals; willing partner opposed to Agon but trying to be sneaky.

9. Observation: there is a malevolent feeling in the area that might correspond to the control aspects of Agondre.

10. If 7b or 7c and 9 and the dragon is a willing participant, then Agondre has been under evil control for centuries. This does not seem to be consistent with the legends I have heard of Agon.

Unknown: the skill of Agon's publicity team.

Hypothesis 1: an evil dragon is linked to the land (enslaved to the land?) against its will, but either the control is weakening or the dragon itself is sick.

If the dragon is sick, the only way to cure the land might be to cure the dragon.

If the dragon is evil and a slave, this could be difficult to accomplish.

Hypothesis 2: the dragon dying would be very bad.

Hypothesis 3 (alternative to 1): the dragon is willing and non-evil but has been afflicted by an evil influence, probably something seeking to control it.

My head is starting to hurt again. And I'm not done.

Liandra is calling us for dinner. Maybe food will help.

later

Mmm. chicken soup. With almost enough garlic.

I'll bet bad things happen if the Dragon's Heart is removed from Cardior. Bad things like, maybe, the heart not being so effective at keeping the body healthy.

Very interesting. Of course, I can't say anything actually useful in response. I'm very glad you're taking an interest in these things, though.
